Batumi city council discussed resignation of the city mayor at the session. Batumi City Mayor quitted position with 14 votes vs 1. UNM did not participate in the ballot. Giorgi Ermakov, former vice-mayor, will be interim mayor. Before occupying the position of the vice-mayor, Ermakov was head of Revenue Service.

Former Mayor Jemal Ananidze applied to the city council for resignation twice; the council did not satisfy his application first. “I think I made right decision to avoid political evaluations about the city hall before elections. I usually claimed that I am not member of any political party but people always accused me to be,” Jemal Ananidze said.

Ananidze will continue academic activities as a lecuturer at the Batumi University.
