February 24, 2014

Nino Devidze, Kakheti

With the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture, on February 17 land-poor-farmers started cultivation of the plots in Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti regions in the frame of the Land-Poor-Farmers Assistance 2014 Spring Project.

Beneficiaries of the Land-poor-farmers assistance 20014 spring project are those farmers, who own or cultivate 1.25 hectares of agriculture plots and produce one-year or multi-year cultures,” director of the agricultural project management agency Giorgi Chkheidze said. Beneficiaries of the project will receive two cards this year- tillage cards and plastic cards of the Liberty Bank, so called agro-cards where 50 points (equal to 50 lari) will be allocated.

Farmers will be able to receive agro cards in the branch offices of the Liberty Bank during six months. The card will ease farmer’s communication with the suppliers of agricultural goods. They will be able to purchase fertilizers, seeds and other goods at different times and from different provider companies.

Distribution of plastic cards started on February 17 in the regions where farmers already received agricultural cards (Kakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Kvemo Kartli, Shida Kartli). Ltd Mechanizatori and contractor companies will assist land-poor-farmers in spring works – tillage of plots.

The total budget of the project is 90 million lari; about 800 000 land-poor-farmers will receive donation from it.
