Flooded Lekhura River created infrastructural problems in Kaspi district. The river undermined the motorway and gas pipe-line, after what several villages in the district remained without gas supply.

Tariel Akhlouri, local resident: “We cope with this problem every year. The river flooded plots and part of houses.”

Local population requests to fix embankment of the Lekhura River and to construct dams on it. They said they have applied to the district administration for help several times but in vain.

Part of Rekha village in Gori district also complains about the damage caused by the natural disaster. Mejuda River flooded 20 houses in the village.

Leri Mezvrishvili, local resident: “Water flew into our house and destroyed everything planted in our plots. It killed our poultry.”

Shida Kartli rescue brigades pumped out water from the basements of the flooded houses. Locals request cleaning and deepening of the river bed in order to avoid similar problems in future.

Before river flood, several villages were hailed in Gori district. Khidistavi village was the most damaged.

Head of Shida Kartli regional administration Sopo Mikhanashvili told humanrights.ge that road department works on the restoration of the damaged road. She added that Gori district administration has already started calculation of the damage caused by the natural disaster. As for Kaspi district, nobody has applied to the district administration for help so far.

Sopho Mikhanashvili: “Ten meters of gas pipe-line was cut due to security measures. This part of pipe-line hindered ongoing road rehabilitation works. The problematic section of the road will be restored in two days and local inhabitants will receive gas supply. Nobody has applied to the Kaspi district administration about flooded agricultural plots so far. If they apply, the commission will be created to count the damage like it happened in Gori district under the instruction of the regional governor. The commission is currently counting damage caused by April 16 natural disaster in Khidistavi and some other villages.”
