Maka Malakmadze, Adjara

Representative of the Adjara organization of the political party Free Georgia Merab Gogoberidze requested Adjara Prosecutor’s Office to publicize details about dispersal of students on November 8, 2007 by special unit and to punish perpetrators under the law.

Gogoberidze said prosecutor’s office has not taken effective steps to investigate the case. “I address to the Chief Prosecutor to publicize details about dispersal of students on November 8, 2007 by special unit. New government promised us to punish every person, who committed crime, but we have received different result.”

In the morning of November 8, 2007, students of Batumi State University were assaulted in the classrooms of the university. Tear-gas was release in the building and special unit broke into the hall. Several poisoned students were taken by ambulance. 22-year-old Tamta Bajelidze, who was pregnant, was poisoned by gas and she was taken to Batumi Maternity House.

Then head of Adjara Main Department of MIA Davit Bedia said in private talks they would not refrain from using all methods [against protesters].
