On January 22, Kutaisi residents protested explosion of Yuri Vazagashvili on the grave of his son in Karapila village, Kaspi district on January 20. The protest rally was held in front of the local self-government administration.

Representatives of nongovernmental organizations, students and ordinary citizens condemned current developments in the country - unresolved cases and increased rate of crimes.

“It makes no difference who committed and who ordered this horrible crime. Government of Georgia is responsible for this tragedy in any case. They are guilty at least for their inactivity in the investigation of Zurab Vazagashvili’s murder case. For years, Yuri Vazagashvili requested investigation not only of his son’s murder case but of all other high profile cases; he requested punishment of the perpetrators too. Despite many promises, the government could not resolve the case during two years,” head of Imereti region office of the political party Free Georgia Giorgi Tsulaia.

He, like the majority of protesters, imposed main responsibility over the government, more precisely on the prosecutor’s office.

“First of all, the prosecutor’s office shall be cleaned from low qualified and United National Movement member personnel. Then they must start proper investigation of the cases. Finally, we should reach the time when justice will be restored. It is not only Vazagashvilis’ tragedy. It is tragedy of the entire nation, because nobody knows when and where she or he becomes next victim,” said Liana Nizharadze, resident of Kutaisi.

The protesters called on the population to unify and the government to wake up.
