Gori City Council Refused MIA to Gift Cars

Gori local self-governmental body does not use seven cars from the vehicles owned by Gori City Hall. In 2009, Gori district administration gave five vehicles to the Shida Kartli regional police of the MIA for temporary use. As for two more cars, one of them was assigned to the Shida Kartli regional governor’s administration and the second to the office of the Gori district majoritarian MP for temporary use.

In 2015 MIA petitioned to the Gori City Hall and requested to assign five vehicles to them as gifts. Gori City Mayor Zurab Jirkvelishvili sent recommendation to the city council to assign the cars to the law enforcement bodies as gifts due to their technical conditions.

The council members protested the mayor’s recommendation. Tamar Tedliashvili from Free Democrats said despite the technical conditions of the cars Gori City Hall must get its property back and sold them on the auction.

“I am against giving the property to the MIA for free; we have so many problems,” council member Tamar Tedliashvili said.

“There is no auto-park in the city council. I think we have to sell old cars and buy new onces with the received money,” council member Davit Razmadze.

All 15 members of the city council attended the session; during the ballot 10 voted against assigning cars to the MIA, 4 voted for it and 1 refrained from voting.

Gori City Mayor Zurab Jirkvelishvili left the session discontent. He said the council members gained political points with the decision.

As for other districts of the Shida Kartli region, local police departments of the MIA temporarily use two cars of Gori district administration, four cars of Khashuri district administration, three cars of Kareli district administration and three cars of Kaspi local government. Sessions on the same topic were not yet held in other district municipal boards.
