Giorgi Tskhadiashvili, who was resigned from the position of the Khashuri municipal board chairman, appealed to the court and requested restoration to the working place. First trial was held on September 22. Giorgi Tskhadiashvili’s authority was suspended on July 20; 18 municipal board members voted for it. Tskhadiashvili said the board members demonstrated mistrust to him as a result of political oppression.

“The main issue is political oppression [on board members] before the session was scheduled. Law enforcement bodies oppress the municipal board and board chairman,” Giorgi Tskhadiashvili said.
Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association defends Tskhadiashvili’s interests at the court. Representatives of the GYLA said the arguments of the respondent party further underlined politicization of this case.

“We request to restore Tskhadiashvili to the position and reimbursement of his missed salaries. Our appeal relies on the allegation that the applicant was resigned on political grounds because he was member of the Free Democrats and it became reason to raise the issue of his resignation at the Khashuri municipal board session. As for the position of the respondent party, they said Giorgi Tskhadiashvili was resigned because he lost trust among municipal board members but could not prove it with facts,” chairperson of the GYLA’s regional office Keti Bebiashvili said.

Khashuri municipal board chairman Vazha Shubitidze said his predecessor was resigned from the position because he lost trust among board members.

“Board members have authority to resign the chairman. If I, professor and honest person, will lose their trust, they can resign me too. Tskhadiashvili was passive person and it became reason for the mistrust towards him,” Vazha Shubitidze said.

MPs from Free Democrats attended the trial. Khashuri municipal board members, who did not vote for Tskhadiashvili’s resignation, also came to the trial.

Next trial on Tskhadiashvili’s case will be held on October 5. Giorgi Tskhadiashvili and his supporters are waiting for the court verdict.
