Non-commercial legal entities Union of Museums and Union of Libraries united in Gurjaani municipality. A new non-commercial legal entity Union of Gurjaani Libraries and Museums was created whose director is neurologist Maya Beroshvili. The new director started reduction of personnel and dismissed 13 employees. Among them was director of the Union of Libraries Mzia Glurjidze.

The dismissed employees clarify that people with years-long experience were fired from the organization. Instead non-experienced people were hired. Former director of the Union of Libraries intends to defend her rights at the court.

“I believe I am professional and I cannot understand why I should stay unemployed today. Librarian of the Kardenakhi village library Nana Tsitsishvili, librarians Elene Kurshitashvili and Nino Sibashvili from the Gurjaani library were also dismissed. All of them are good professionals. Elene Kurshitashvili does not have anybody in the family to earn money; she has financial problems and sick child at home who permanently needs medicines. Nobody cared about it. She has relevant knowledge and experience. I think they had to conduct test-exams to annul our doubts about corruption and nepotism,” Mzia Glurjidze said.

Director of the Union of Gurjaani Libraries and Museums Maya Beroshvili said there is no requirement to conduct text exams in the noncommercial entities. Personnel were dismissed according to their working experience and communication skills.

Humanrights.ge contacted Gurjaani district governor Gia Gergidze to find out according to which criteria 13 people were dismissed from the union.
“If they are illegally fired, let them appeal to the court. Their labor contracts expired and the director decided the organization does not need so many employees; so she stopped their contracts,” the district governor said.
