Torture Victim Prisoners Claim Reimbursement of Damage

On March 22, in the press-club of Prime Time, representatives of Human Rights Center held press-conference about the claims of the torture victim prisoners who claim reimbursement of physical and moral damage with 500 000 GEL from the Ministry of Corrections of Georgia. 
 
In the lawsuits prepared by Human Rights Center, the prisoners the prisoners request to impose reimbursement of their damage with 500 000 GEL on the Ministry of Corrections of Georgia. 

Present and former prisoners applied to Human Rights Center, who were victims of physical and psychological torture during imprisonment terms. Some of them were recognized to be victims of physical assault by prison personnel. According to the guilty verdicts, the prison personnel tortured them in 2006-2012. 

“The State is responsible before every person, who was imprisoned and went through the unbearable conditions in the penitentiary establishments in the past years. The prisoners have acute health problems. The state is responsible to reimburse their moral and physical damage,” lawyer of Human Rights Center Nestan Londaridze said. 

Head of the legal aid service at the Center Tamar Avaliani said the number of tortured prisoners is quite high but only five of them have applied to the Center for help. Two cases are already processed.
