Strong Wind Destroyed 80% of Harvest for Lagodekhi District Population

On April 21, strong wind damaged agricultural plots in the villages of Lagodekhi municipality.

The wind damaged greenhouses and houses of local population.

“The wind rooted out plants from the ground; removed cellophane cover from the greenhouses, destroyed buildings and about 80% of harvest is devastated. Two houses were roofed off in Podani village. The people need help but nobody pays attention,” Vakhtang Mtchedlidze, chairman of Lagodekhi district organization of the Free Democrats, said.

The victimized locals request meeting with government members and reimbursement of damage; otherwise they threaten with protest demonstrations.

“We took loans to cultivate plots and plant vegetables; now we have lost everything. We urge the government for help,” the locals said.

Lagodekhi district governor Karlo Jamburia said they have not calculated the damage yet. He said the working groups were already sent to the villages and they will study the situation on the place.
