The heavy hail seriously damaged the Kakheti region population. It devastated several hectares of vine-yards and vegetable-gardens in the village of Gavazi, Kvareli municipality and in the village of Velistsikhe, Gurjaani municipality. The locals said they were significantly damaged and urge the government for help.

“80% of my vine-yard was damaged. 300 hectares of land was devastated around my yard. There is an anti-hail apparatus in the region but they have not used it so far. If they had used it, we would have avoided this damage. Now we have to take particular care of the vine and unless the government helps us we cannot save it,” Elguja Samniashvili said.

District governor’s attorney in Velistsikhe village, Nukri Bakhlishvili told humanrights.ge that they will calculate the damage of the local population and then decide how to assist them.

Head of the press and public relations unit at the Kvareli district administration Nino Khutsishvili said the commission will study the situation in Gavazi village and calculate the damage of the population.
