Failed assembly of “Socialist Georgia” and confrontation in Telavi

August 11, 2016

Information Center of Kakheti

“I protest your activities. Today, in the 21st century, it is not a time for the Soviet Union. Russia is occupant, Russia is murderer and you are all slaves”, - after the former correspondent of the Public Broadcaster in Kakheti Region Roman Kevkhishvili said these words  one of the founders of the“ Socialist Georgia” Temur Pipia, slapped him.  In response, the journalist threw the egg to him. The founding assembly of the Socialist Georgia failed in Telavi.

Approximately 80 people, mostly elderlies, who support the Communist Party, gathered in the Niko Sulkhanishvili Music School in Telavi.
From the morning, activists of the new political center “Girchi”, the “National Movement” and the “New Georgia” also gathered in the school. The “Girchi’s” single mandate candidate Vakhtang Mosiashvili declared they protest pro-occupation propaganda.

The situation aggravated when the former correspondent of the Public Broadcaster in Kakheti Region Roman Kevkhishvili entered the school in the anti-Putin T-Shirt. Kevkhishvili told Temur Pipia, one of the founders of Socialist Georgia that Russia is occupant, Putin is murderer and there is no time for Soviet Union in the 21st century. Temur Pipia slapped the journalist in response and Kevkhishvili threw the egg at him . The supporters of the Socialist Georgia took the journalist out of the building.

The journalist informed the police about the incident. The law enforcement officers took Temur Pipia to the police office. According to the MIA, the investigation goes under article 125 of Criminal Code of Georgia, which implies beating. Temur Pipia is not detained.

“He was a provocateur, he broke into the building. He had a photo of Putin and insulting words on his T-Shirt. He thinks, he provokes us, but in fact, he provoked the Georgian State, Georgia and Georgian People. We will not hold the assembly, because we do not want to continue provocations”, - stated Valeri Kvaratskhelia, the leader of the Socialist Georgia.

“We must combat the same-sex marriages. We have to eliminate the values which Europe and America proposes us. We must integrate and cooperate with Russia. We must say no to NATO and develop the relationship with Russia. If it is necessary that the American Army deployed in my country, who propagandizes same-sex marriages and anti-Christianity, I prefer that Russian Army replaced them”, - said Grisha Oniani, one of the founders of the Socialist Georgia.

There were no soviet symbols in the hall, where the assembly had to take place. Unlike the assemblies in Gori and Batumi, the soviet anthem was not played either.

Reportedly, on August 3, the special commission of the Georgian Security Service addressed the MIA and called on to take preventive measures to avoid use of prohibited soviet totalitarian symbols during the events in Telavi. “If somebody prohibits us to present those symbols to people, which are unacceptable and restricted by the law, let’s forbid people to stand up, applaud and express emotions to those symbols too. If there is at least minimal democracy in Georgia, we should enjoy freedom of expression and speech”, - Kvaratskhelia said.

The founders of the Socialist Georgia together with the supporters celebrated the day of signing the Georgievsk Treaty in front of the monument of the King Erekle II (the king of Georgia, who signed the treaty), after their attempt to register the regional organization was failed. Valeri Kvaratskhelia declared that the Treaty saved Georgia and we shall again sign similar document with Russia.

Grisha Oniani said that the founding date of the Kakheti Regional Organization of the Socialist Georgia will be announced soon.

NGO public movement “Socialist Georgia was registered on June 9, 2016. The leader of the Neutral Georgia Valeri Kvaratskhelia is the chairman of the organization. Grigol Oniani, the head of the international organization “Stalin”, and Temur Pipia, the leader of United Communist Party are the co-chairs of the movement

The Socialist Georgia supports close relations with Russia. The organization uses the soviet flag, portraits of Stalin, soviet anthem, symbols and banners with Russian writing: “Together with Russian people”.

We remind you that on July 30, Valeri Kvaratskhelia commented on the restriction of use of soviet symbols, including hammer and sickle, by the Georgian legislation, , in the program of the Objective.:

“When you adopt the law and forbid use of working tools, you are not only forbidding them on the paintings, but also in real life. Hammer and sickle are rudimentary working tools. You cut the life and living source of the people. The foolish law adopted by foolish people does it. Therefore, we are not afraid of you. We are not afraid of the law. We will cut the tongues out of those people, who deprived people from the right to live, with this sickle and will break your foolish heads with that hammer. Because you are brutal enemies of working people. Shut up and hush your dirty tongues. This is my answer regarding the symbols”.

Valeri Kvaratskhelia participated in the program of the Objective TV as anchor. The Communication National Commission of Georgia responded to the statement.  and called on the broadcasters, participants of social-political programs to respect the law and ethic standards.

According to the “Ethic Code of Broadcasters” the anchor, journalist or interviewer of the news or social-political talk-shows shall not be a political high-ranking official or member of any political party.
