Public Defender Demands Immediate Investigation of the Case of Explosion

October 5, 2016

According to the reports spread on October 4, 2016, a vehicle of MP Giorgi (Givi) Targamadze, member of the opposition party United National Movement, was exploded in front of the party office. Reportedly several people were injured. As Givi Targamadze told reporters, the explosion against him was carried out through a remote control mechanism. The Ministry of Internal Affairs launched an investigation under article 19 (attempted crime) and article 109 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (premeditated murder under aggravating circumstances).

It is alarming that such a fact comes just 3 days before the elections. Only the launch of the investigation, of course, is not enough. The law enforcement agencies must bring the process to an end and appropriate legal measures must be timely taken against offenders.
