All Three Single Mandate MPs in Kutaisi Will Have Separate Bureaus

December 13, 2016

Shorena Kakabadze, Kutaisi

The bureaus of the single mandate MPs will open in near future. However, meanwhile, the MPs need to select staff members. According to the preliminary information, the MPs already work on that.

Single mandate MP in Tskaltubo municipality Tsotne Zurabiani is the first in the Imereti region, who opened competition for two positions (one for the office manager) in his bureau. The selection criteria are not clear yet but as we found out preference will be given to the residents of the Tskaltubo municipality.

It is not known whether single mandate MPs from Kutaisi will also open vacancy competitions for the employees in their bureaus. All three MPs told humanrights.ge that they get consultations about the staff members and finally they will select qualified people.

Unlike previous years, the 9th convocation Parliament of Georgia will have three single mandate MPs in Kutaisi. All three of them – Koba Narchemashvili, Genadi Margvelashvili and Dimitry Mkheidze will have separate bureaus. However, their funding will be reduced. As the Parliament Chairman said: “Along with the amended rule of electing the single mandate MPs, the issue of increasing budgets for their bureaus was also revised. Consequently, we agreed on different model of funding the bureaus – with the increased number of bureaus their average funding will be reduced.”

According to the statement of the Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze, the number of the bureau staff members will also be reduced – each bureau will have 3 or mostly 2 employees unlike previous 4-5 staff-members.
