The Media Institute echoes the initiative of the two members of the Board of Advisors of the Adjara TV and Radio Public Broadcasting to start impeachment of the director Natia Kapanadze.
While Natia Kapanadze has been the director of the Adjara TV and Radio, many local and international organizations evaluated the media organization as free, impartial and developing institution.
In accordance to the survey of the Transparency International – Georgia, commencement of various reforms are associated with Natia Kapanadze. Namely, multiple documents regarding the development of the organization have been drafted; old programs have been renewed and new programs have been aired; and the hiring has become more transparent. The organization is open to citizens and interested parties. However, Adjara TV and Radio face multiple challenges.
Media Institute is concerned that political powers allegedly try to obtain influence over the Adjara TV and Radio of the Public Broadcasting that is absolutely inadmissible and undermines the freedom of media and reputation of the country internationally.
Media Institute calls on the Board of Advisors not to take unreasonable and harmful step which may damage the freedom of media in the country.
