Opinion of the NGOs about the impeachment of the Adjara TV and Radio Company Director

April 25, 2019

NGOs negatively evaluate the initiative of the two members of the Adjara TV and Radio Company’s Council of Trustees about the impeachment of the company director Natia Kapanadze.

Many international and local organizations assessed the Adjara TV and Radio Company as independent, impartial and developing institution in strictly polarized and politicized media environment while Natia Kapanadze occupied the position of the director.

When launching the impeachment procedure of the director, the initiators shall be fully aware of the expected harm to the democratic development of the country and media freedom. We hope, other members of the Council of Trustees will be more prudent and protect editorial independence of the channel.

The nongovernmental organizations carefully observe the ongoing processes in the Adjara TV and Radio Company and hope the session will be public and society will be able to get involved in the process.
