HRC monitor observed the remote court hearing of Tamliani’s case

April 24, 2020

Today, April 24, the Tbilisi City Court held the hearing of Besik Tamliani’s case remotely. As the defense lawyer Levan Ioseliani clarified Besik Tamliani could not participate in the process because of the limited access to technical means.

Consequently, the defense lawyer requested to postpone the hearing and the prosecution agreed with it. The next hearing is scheduled on May 25 at 17:00 pm.

HRC monitor also observed the court hearing remotely. It is the first case when the Tbilisi City Court allowed the HRC monitor to attend the hearing remotely.

Civil activist Besik Tamliani was arrested under the charge of organization and participation in the group violence during June 20-21, 2019 events.

On March 23, 2020, several days before the 9-month pretrial imprisonment was due to expire, the court changed the compulsory measure against him into 4 000 GEL bail and Tamliani left penitentiary establishment.

The Tbilisi City Court continues hearings of the criminal case against Tamliani.
