The Family of the Murdered Person Demands to Punish the Murderer

December 21, 2006

patrol.jpgThe day before yesterday, it was a funeral of Valeri Pkhakadze, who was killed by patrol policeman. Ivane Kapatadze shot the drunken nineteen-year-old man. Pkhakadze died of losing great amount of blood in the Interventional Medical Centre of the Western Georgia.

Members of the "Egalitarian Institute', Levan Gogichaishvili and Davit Dalakishvili, arrived at the funeral.

According to Levan Gogichaishvili "It is difficult for me to comment the fact. Our government and the representatives of the Interior Ministry are so indulgent, that they are not ashamed of murdering the young, shackled people in the street.  Vano Merabishvili is a coward leader of killers. This day is not a tragic not only for this particular family, but for the whole Georgia. Let Ms. Nino Burdjanadze arrive here and explain the family why patrol police murdered their son. It is clear that their policy-killing people in the street-will never be changed."

Besides the Egalitarian Institute, the Pkhakadzes were condoled with the grandparents of Amiran Robakidze, who was also killed by patrol police. "This terrible fact reminded me of my own pain. I have arrived here to condole with this family. The murderer of my grandson confessed that he had killed my boy premeditatedly. But later, he was made to change his testimony and then he said he had fired him accidentally. So, we are living in such a country. But I hope that very soon this disaster will end," said Amiran Robakidze's grandfather.

The family of the murdered Pkhakadze demands to punish Ivane Kapatadze. The murderer was sentenced to two-month pretrial detention by the Kutaisi Appeal Court with the mediation of the Imereti Regional Prosecutor's Office. The Regional Prosecutor's office is investigating the case.

"It is not enough to punish only the policeman. Those people who protect them should also be severely punished. I have nothing to worry about. I demand to carry out the investigation within the law," said Boris Pkhakadze, father of the murdered man.

As for the members of the Egalitarian Institute, they are about to stay for two or three days in Kutaisi. They do not exclude the possibility of holding protest demonstrations either.
