August 10, 2009

Tako Khutsishvili

The Board of Trustees elected a new Director-General of Georgian Public Broadcasting today. Giorgi Chanturia received 5 votes and was elected as the Director-General of GPB. The two other candidates did not receive any votes.

“I think it will be very important for the development of the Public Broadcasting. Mr. Giorgi Chanturia will be able to do what was failed to be done in the previous years. This channel will become interesting for everyone,” said Levan Gakheladze, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees who openly stated that he voted for Giorgi Chanturia.

“The elections were held in an objective and transparent way. It is a fact that Giorgi won fairly. I approve his candidacy because I know how he works. He has very interesting ideas. I think many channels, not only First Channel (another name of Georgian Public Broadcasting) needs to be cleaned and taste  be upgraded,” said Otar Koberidze, a member of Board of Trustees of Georgian Public Broadcasting.

For your information, the position of the Director-General has been vacant since July 15, 2009 when Levan Kubaneishvili, the former Director-General of GPB, left his position.

The contract with the new director will be signed today.
