Ossetian and Georgian Peoples Hoist Flags to Disregard Each Other

December 16, 2009

Saba Tsitsikashvili, Gori

On November 29 three men went to St. George church in Dvani village and stole the bell of the church. Although the incident happened at night, there are people who saw how criminals removed the bell. Furthermore, Gulo Mamagulashvili claims Ossetians stole the bell and shot in the air. Mamagulashvili thinks they were shooting to irritate residents of the village of Dvani because several Ossetian people consider the territory around the Church belongs to the “Independent South Ossetia”.

The employee of the Dvani village administration confirms the claiming of Gulo Mamaglashvili. Tamar Mamagulashvili, the specialist of the administration, states that after stealing the bell, Ossetian people shot in the air and hoisted the Russian flag on the top of the church.

Residents of Dvani say this incident occurred after Georgians hoisted state flag of Georgia on the one of the highest electricity post.

The specialist of the village administration states that the church is located on the territory of Georgia and Ossetians do not have right to hoist another flag there.

The St George Church is located on the top of the village. There is a cemetery of Georgian and Ossetian people near the territory. The inhabitants of the village of Dvani stated that the cemetery is for Dvani and also for Ossetian villages too like Muguti. According to them, Ossetian people do not go to the cemetries, because they are afraid of Georgians and Georgians are afraid of them too.

According to the family members living in the outskirt of Dvani, they hear the voice of cocks from Ossetian villages every morning. People do not get in touch with each other. They are afraid of each other.

A villager says that Russian aircrafts flew so law that the walls of house began to crack.

People cannot go to the forest to cut wood. They know that if they cross the board, de-facto government of South Ossetia will detain them. Dvani has such a location that Ossetian people control their village from the hills. They observe who moves in the village.
