Zurab Zhvania versus "Tavisufali Gazeti"

February 3, 2004

Zurab  Zhvania versus "Tavisufali Gazeti"

State Minister files charges against the press.

Zurab Zhvania appealed to the Didube-Chugureti district court of Tbilisi, alleging that the information published in "Tavisufali Gazeti" ("Free paper") is libelous and unfair. Zhvania claimed that his honor, dignity and business reputation were tarnished by the newspaper, and challenged the paper either to prove the accusation or to publicly apologize for degrading his honor and dignity. In addition, the prime minister demanded several thousand lari for punitive damages.

The Tavisufali Gazeti accused Zhvania of lobbying for the Football Federation, the Railway Department, and "Madneuli".
