More Political Prisoners Detained in Adjara

Otar Zoidze, representative of the Opposition Union “Chveni Adjara”, and a member of the #37 Polling Station Commission of Akhalsopeli, was detained by the government of Adjara on March 5, 2004. He was detained for a misdemeanor committed in 1998, the illegal breaking of the windows.

According to the statements made by the opposition forces, he has been imprisoned illegally. The stated reason for his detention is completely unjustifiable, and indicates the political nature of his arrest.

Why has Otar Zoidze been detained by the Adjarian government 6 years after committing the crime? Is it a coincidence that he has only been arrested recently, when the opposition forces are becoming more active in Adjara?

According to the latest information, three activists of "Chveni Adjara" have also been detained in Batumi for disseminating statements against Aslan Abashidze, the leader of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.
