Police Disperse Demonstration in Batumi

On April 30,  police dispersed a peaceful demonstration of the united opposition in Batumi. The demonstrators demanded the release of political prisoners, and called for special elections to be held in Batumi.

Police beat many demonstrators, mostly women, with sticks and clubs. Authorities also attacked journalist Aleko Tvaradze, a cameraman for Rustavi 2, and broke his camera. Police also took cameras from other journalists.
