Georgian Citizen against OSCE

July 6, 2004

Georgian Citizen against OSCE

A Georgian citizen, Manana Kokashvili, blames the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) for ignoring Georgian legislation and court decisions. Manana Kokashvili worked for OSCE Tbilisi office as an interpreter.

In 2002 she went on maternity leave, and a month later she was dismissed. According to Georgian labour legislation, pregnant women can be dismissed only in case of liquidation of the organization.

Vake-Saburtalo district court satisfied the appeal of Manana Kokashvili for her restoration on work and the OSCE was obliged to fulfill the court decision. But, it was not done.

Kokashvili applied to the European Court on Human Rights that will discuss the case as soon as possible. If the appeal is satisfied, the responsibility will be imposed on the Georgian government.
