The Newspaper Editor-in-chief Robbed

The Newspaper Editor-in-chief Robbed

On July 18, 2004 at 3 a.m. some persons attacked Zurab Kachlishvili, the editor-in-chief of Kakheti regional newspaper “Objective” and robbed him of a mobile phone in Chavchavadze Street.  The aggressors inflicted minor injuries on the victim in the area of the head, arm and stomach. Zurab Kachlishvili stated that he identified one of the aggressors and informed the police that this person was Achiko Tarashvili, one of the activists of the local organization of the National Movement. The editor-in-chief said that the attack might even have a purposeful character, as Achiko Tarashvili is close with Gocha Mamatsashvili, Telavi Interim Governor.  The latter has conflicted with Zurab Kachlishvili many times in the past.
According to Vazha Magradze, the Prosecutor of Telavi, robbery of the editor is just an average criminal case and not the action with political motivations. He also noted that even the victim himself did not name political motivations.

The case is under investigation.
