“The Georgian Government Acts like Putin”

“The Georgian Government Acts like Putin”

Tbilisi. 03.08.04. Media News.

Human Rights Information and Documentation Centre protests the detention of Revaz Okruashvili, the editor-in chief of Sakhalkho Gazeti (The People’s Newspaper) published in Gori and believes that the Georgian government is obviously exerting pressure on the press.

“The number of closed newspapers and magazines, stopped TV programs and sealed televisions is not sufficient for the government, and this style of political revenge is comparable to the Soviet method of detaining journalists. The current processes in mass media are very much like the policy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is against freedom of speech,” as stated in documents released by the Human Rights Information and Documentation Centre.
