Shalva Natelashviuli Protests Amendments to the Labor Law

Tbilisi. 09.08.04. Media News.

Shalva Natelashvili, leader of the Labor Party declared that Mikheil Saakashvili, the President of Georgia secretly signed the amendments to the Labor Law, which considers the dismissal of all employees of budget maintained facilities.
The leader of the Labor Party said that according to International Norms an employee must be given two months notice on his dismissal and  must receive additional salary. Saakashvili conceals the fact that the project has already been approved and became law.
Shalva Natelshvioli calls on the population not to sign resignation letters and to fight against unlawfulness.
According to Shalva Natelshvili the law will go into effect from January 1, 2004.
Irakli Petriashvili, Deputy Chairman of Trade Unions stated that he had just been informed about the amendments in the Labor Law.
The amendements to the law, which the President signed on June 24, 2004 do not correspond with International Norms. Namely, giving one month instead of two months notice to the employee regarding his/her dismissal is a violation; furthermore there are no social guarantees for compensation.
