Trade Unions Bring Complaint against Parliament

Tbilisi. 03.09.04. Media News.

Irakli Tugushi, Chairperson of the Georgian Trade Union, has brought a complaint against the Georgian parliament before the Constitutional Court.

The Trade Unions consider that the amendments to the law on “public service”, which the parliament passed on December, 31st 2003 are violating the rights of thousands of people; namely, in the case of dismissal from work, the employee is not paid the salary debt and special financial aid, which contradicts Article 30 and Article 32 of the Constitution. By stopping the first and third provisions of Article 109 of the law on “public service” regarding the decrease of staff numbers, the employees dismissed from the public service are deprived of their rights to receive the compensation, which was considered in case of their dismissal.

The Trade Unions demand a declaration, which dismisses the #3211 amendments to the law on “public service” as unconstitutional and stops the law’s application until further notice by the Constitutional Court.
