People Blocked the Kurta Part of Tskhinvali-Djavi Road

Gori.07.10.04.Media News. Some of the residents of Kurta, a village in the gorge of Didi Liakhvi continue protest actions demanding the release of Gia and Roin Basishvili who were detained by the Gori prosecution.

They have blocked the Kurta part of Tskhinvali-Djavi road; furthermore about 30 participants of the action are gathered in front of the Gori Prosecutor’s Office.

Gori prosecution detained Gia and Roin Basishvilis three days ago charging them with supporting Ioseb Birtvelishvili, former police officer of Kurta in arranging his escape from prison. Birtvelishvili was detained by the police being charged with abuse of power. At present he is declared wanted.

On October 6, 2004 Gori District Court did not sentence Gia and Roin Basishvili to pre-detention and released them from the court. Later the prosecution gathered additional evidence and once more applied to the court to sentence the Basishvilis with pre-detention. The trial is going to be held today.
