Council of Europe Concerned About Molashvili Case

Tbilisi. Media News. The Council of Europe is going to observe the developments of Sulkhan Molashvili’s case, who is former chairman of the Chamber of Control.

On October 26, Josette Durrieu, Chairperson of the Committee on the Honouring of Obligations and Commitments by member states of the Council of Europe (Monitoring Committee) stated at a press conference that Sulkhan Molashvili’s health is in poor condition. Dourier also mentioned that the Council is in possession of information about the defendant having been tortured.

The head of the committee applied to the General prosecutor with specific questions regarding the case of Molashvili, but did not coment the prosecutor’s answers at the conference. Instead, Dourier announced to visit Koba Narchemashvili, former Minister of Interior, who is currently being held in custody.

At the press-conference Josette Durrieu also expressed concern about the unsatisfactory condition of Georgian prisons. Some facilities date back to the 19th century whilst others were build during Soviet times.
