Freedom of Speech On Decline in Georgia

Tbilisi.01.12.04.Media-news. The Georgian press is partly free - this is the conclusion of the well-known international organization “Freedom House.”

“Freedom House” evaluates freedom of speech on the basis of a 7 point system – one point being the highest and 7 the lowest grade. Georgia has been awarded four points, thus ranking on the same level as Armenia, Bangladesh, Burkina-Faso, Columbia, Gambia, Tonga, Zambia and Ukraine.

In 1998-2000 the freedom of speech in Georgia was rated third grade. Afterwards the situation has changed to the worse from a perspective of external observers.
