Child Rights Defense Centre May be Cancelled

Tbilisi.09.12.04.Media News. Child Rights Defense Centre of Tbilisi Mayor’s Office may be abolished. According to Bela Saria, the Head of the Centre the financing of the organization is not considered in Tbilisi budget for 2005.

In an interview with Media News regarding the issue Irakli Todua, Tbilisi Vice Premier in Social Issues stated that defending the rights of children and improvement of their social conditions is one of the priorities for the city government.

“When the new Pr4emier of the city is approved by the City Council we will meet this person and discuss what kind of structure we need for the defense of children’s rights in order to have more effective work in solving the problem. This structure may be in the form of Centre or group of counselors of several people” – stated Irakli Todua. He also said that supportive programme for disabled children is sure to be considered in the budget of 2005. In 2005 specialist will study what kind of problems there are regarding the children and by 2006 step-by-step work will start to improve the social conditions of children.
