The Government did not Fulfill Promise to Tskhinvali Students

Tbilisi. 21.12.04.Media News. Representatives of “New Student Alternative” are defending the students living in the region of Tskhinvali, South Ossetia.

As the representatives of “New Student Alternative” state Zurab Zhvania, the Prime Minister being in Liakhvi Gorge in summer of 2004 promised the students financial support for studying in the capital. This was known to the Ministry of Education, Nino Burdjanadze, Chairperson of the Parliament and Mikheil Kareli, President’s Representative in Shida Kartli. However, when the students arrived in Tbilisi and entered different universities, at the end of the studying term the Governmnet did not finance the students and the students had to leave the universities. Members of “New Student Alternative” together with the students from South Ossetia gathered in front of the Georgian Parliament on December 21. They had the opportunity to speak to Aleksandre Lomaia, Minister of Education and Science though according to the students they did not manage to receive concrete answer from the minister. Vasil Maglaperidze, MP also met the students.
