Public Television Will Begin Functioning From Spring

Tbilisi.26.12.04.Media News. President Mikheil Saakashvili has not yet signed the Law on Broadcasting.

Law on Broadcasting which the president approved at the third hearing of the parliament a few days ago, considers reformation of the state television into the public television.

Though as stated by Giga Bokeria, one of the initiators of the Law on Broadcasting the public television is supposed to begin functioning from spring. In the meantime a monitoring council will be established which will define the principles of the work of the public television.

For information: First Channel has been working in the restructured format for several days already. Change of the broadcasting format was the idea of Zaza Shengelia, Charman of the Broadcasting Company himself. Besides, members of the monitoring council does not exclude the possibility that more changes may be made in programs as well as in the staff for the spring.
