NGOs Protesting President’s Initiative

Tbilisi. Media News. NGO “42nd Article of the constitution” protests against the president’s initiative on draft of the constitutional changes according which the judges of the Supreme Court and of the Constitutional Court will be dismissed before their terms expired.

The head of the organization Lia Mukhashavria says that according to the mentioned bill, the president will present nine members of the Constitutional Court that as she says “will promote authoritarian regime as the Constitutional Court will never take decision against president”.

The head of the organization considers that the composition of the Constitutional Court that will expire its term in a year and a half, should be changed after the term envisaged by the law.

Mukhashavria considers as well twelve judges of the Supreme Court who were appointed with 15 years tem in 1997 should expire their terms.

“In case of adopting these changes, the issue of the impeachment of the president should be put into agenda”- states Lia Mukhashavria and calls the society for the involvement in the discussion of the mentioned issue.
