Law on Higher Education Entered into Force

Tbilisi.13.01.05.Media News. On January 13 law on higher education recently adopted by the parliament was published in “Legislation News” of the Ministry of Justice which means that it has already entered into force.

From the moment when the new law enters into force rectors of institutes and universities will resign from their working positions and till the election of new rectors the president of the country will appoint interim rectors. This person may be former rector or a professor of the same institute or university.

Elections of the new rector shall be held once a year.

The principle of united national examinations has entered into force together with the new law. According to this principle the number of examinations will be three or four for some specialties: Georgian language and literature, a foreign language, skills and mathematics.

About 15 examination centers have been created in the country. The process of examination will be recorded by video cameras and the relatives and supporters will have an opportunity to watch the process live. Then the works will be collected and a team of qualified correctors specially selected in Tbilisi will check them.
