The Leader of Eparchy Was Sentenced to Six Years Imprisonment

Tbilisi, 1/31/05, Media-News. Tbilisi Vake- Saburtalo Court has sentenced Basil Mkalavrishvili, so called leader of Gldani Eparchy, to six years imprisonment.  His supporters, Petre Ivanidze and Petre Koroshidze, were sentenced to prison for 4 years and 1 year, respectively.

As for the other four detainees, they will have to serve conditional sentences. They were released from the court hall.

Lawyers for Basil Mkalavishvili and his supporters consider the court’s decision to be illegal and plan to appeal.

The Court proceeded despite protest action by Basil Mkalavishvili's supporters.

Basil Mkalavishvili and his supporters are charged with damaging the property of Jehovah's Witnesses.
