Explosion in Gori Qualifies as a Terrorist Act

Tbilisi, 2/4/05, Media-News. On February 1, 2004, a car exploded in front of the Police Department for the city of Gori.  The regional police building and local houses were damaged. According to an expert, a remote-controlled, 80-100kg trotil and plastic mechanism is responsible for the explosion.

Security Minister Irakli Okruashvili confirmed the incident and said it qualified as a terrorist act.

According to Nikoloz Fruidze, Deputy Minister of the Georgian Labor, Welfare and Social Defense Ministry, four people died and 27 were injured by the terrorist act.

According to Kote Gabashvili, the Chairman of the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, the incident was organized by people who do not support the peace initiative.
