Public Defender Advises the Government to be Patient

Tbilisi.02.21.05.Media News. Sozar Subari, Public Defender is dissatisfied with the fact that the government disperses peaceful meetings and manifestations and declares that “the government should be patient towards the meetings and manifestations”.

“The Constitution of our country does not restrict such measures though there have already been several precedents when such measures were forcibly stopped. The criminal case has even been brought,” – stated Subari.

He particularly stressed on the developments regarding the detention of the Rector of the University in Akhaltsikhe. The students who were expressing their position with peaceful manifestation were dispersed. Some of them were detained by law enforcers and there was an attempt to punish them according to administrative law. However, after Bacho Akhalaia, Deputy Public Defender got involved in the case this did not take place.

As Sozar Subari stated he does not make any comment regarding the detention of Merab Beridze, University Rector in Akhaltsikhe, as it is the business of the respective bodies to find out whether he is guilty or not. But as for the students, if there will be any activity directed against them Public Defender will immediately get involved.
