Elene Tevdoradze will Demand from Azerbaijan to Defend the Minority Rights

Tbilisi.03.06.05.Media News. The issue of the responsibilities taken over by Georgia before the Council of Europe regarding the settlement of Turks and Meskhs will again become an actual topic at the end of April. Exactly for that period the session of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly will be held; however the Georgian delegation is going to bring up the issue of Georgians living in Azerbaijan (Ingilos).

The fact is that as Elene Tevdoradze, Head of Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament told Media News, when the Committee of Refugees and Migrants of the Council of Europe discusses the issue of “Turks and Meskhs”, there is always a big pressure exercised on Georgia by Azerbaijan, Turkey and Russia.

According to Tevdoradze there are several thousands of Meskhs living in Azerbaijan and that’s why Baku is so active.

“I will bring up the issue of Ingilos at the session of the Committee as we receive a lot letters and e lots of people address us saying that their rights are violated in Azerbaijan. They are forbidden to restore or retain traditional first and last names. They are also forbidden to speak Georgian outside their families etc. We do not reproach Azerbaijan, but we demand from them to fulfill their obligations and defend the rights of National Minosrities” – stated Elene Tevdoradze.
