European Commission Report on Georgia

Tbilisi.03.04.05.Media News. European Commission gives a recommendation to have closer relationship with Georgia within the framework of “European Neighboring Policy”.

The mentioned recommendation is given in the report on Georgia which Benito Ferero Foreign Relations and Neighboring Policy EU Commissioner introduced on March 2 in Brussels.

As Torben Holtze, head of the European Commission Delegation to Georgia stated at the press conference held on March 4, the report is to be approved by the Council of Ministers of the European Union on March 22 and then the European Commission will develop the Individual Partnership Program with Georgia.

According to Torben Holtze, the report of the European Commission puts special focus on the development of political institutions, democracy, rule of law and defense of human rights; on the implementation of economic and social reforms, creation of necessary environment for the support of further liberation of trade and business.

“I hope the Council of Ministers of the European Union will make a positive decision regarding launching of negotiations on Individual Partnership with Georgia. Deepening of our relations will greatly depend on the efforts of the Georgian government and the steps it takes forward”- stated Holtze.

For the information: Georgia got involved in the Neighboring Policy together with Armenia and Azerbaijan in June, 2004.
