Former Defence Ministry Official Remains Under Arrest

Tbilisi 30.03.05.Media News. Tbilisi Regional Court has denied an appeal to annul the three month preliminary  detention of Zurab Khutsishvily, the former Deputy head of the Defense Ministry’s logistics department.  The Court’s ruling is final and can not be appealed again.

Khutsishvili was arrested by the General Prosecutor’s Office several days ago for alleged  misappropriation of state funds allocated for the renovation of army barracks. Tbilisi Mtatsminda-Krtsanisi District Court sentenced him to a preliminary detention of three months on March 25.

Former Inspector of the Infrastructure Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Gia Kheloishvili was also arrested for suspected misuse of power and embezzlement. The Court gave him a three month preliminary detention sentence on March 28.
