Azerbaijani People Organize Protest Action

Marneuli. 03.31.05. Media News. Azerbaijani residents of Sadakhlo, in the district of Marneuli, organized a protest action demanding the resignation of Gocha Shubitidze, head of the police sub-department.

According to the residents, Shubitidze and other police officials are guilty of physically and verbally abusing residents, as well as extorting money from them.
Supporters of the policemen came to the action and clashed with the protesters, heightening the tension of the situation.

Gocha Shubitidze, the head of the police sub-department, states that he is often confronted by people whose relatives or family members are detained by the police for different crimes.  He claimed that “We detain only those who abuse the law, and no demonstrations can stop this process.”
