Change of Names to Become Simpler

Tbilisi. 27.05.05.MediaNews. Georgians now will be given the right to choose any name or surname and patronymic. They will be allowed to take symbols, abstract object, or numbers.

The Legal Committee of Parliament have already reviewed and supported the amendments made in the law about the Registration of Citizens’ Status prepared the Ministry of Justice.

With this change all barriers that formerly existed will be removed. The author of this law-project say that these changes are made according to international standards and more attention will be paid to people.

It is not clear yet, however, that will there be any restrictions on choosing the names of nobles and dignitaries, and the Committee intends to hold more discussions on this issue. However, the Committee admits that since there is no monarchy in Georgia, they see no point in imposing such restrictions.
