Social Adaptation Center for Children has been Opened

Tbilisi. June 1, 2005. MediaNews. The first Social Adaptation Center for Children has been opened in Tbilisi.

President Saakashvili was present at the opening ceremony of the center, telling journalists that the problem of homeless children is especially serious in the capital. “The majority of homeless kids are drug addicts and inspired by their families or criminal groups, they frequently commit minor crimes,” said the President.

The Center will provide temporary shelter to homeless children for up to 6 months and after this period, they will either be returned to their families or sent to orphanages.

Special care will be provided to study the mental as well as physical conditions of these kids. If needed, adequate assistance will then be provided to them.

The center has been opened under the “Shelter for Homeless Kids” project, with a 2005 development budget of 200.000 GEL.
