Conservative Party Office has been Attacked in Zestaponi

Tbilisi.13.06.05. MediaNews. On 13 June regional office of the Conservative Party has been raided and smashed. Around 30 people were involved in raid. Two Party activitsts – Girogi Beradze and Badri Gugusiani have been beaten.

As the Heads of the Party say, among the raiders the victims have identified Zaza Davladze, who works at Zestaponi gamgeoba (local government).

In connection with this fact Bidzina Gujabidze, the member of Conservative Party, and Kakha Beradze, head of the consertvative Party’s Zestaponi regional organisation said that during the press conference held at the Parliemnt that the reason for raid was that the Conservative Party accused local authorities in corruption.

On 8 June, Mirian Beruashvili, Zestaponi acting gamgebeli, was arrested on the bribery charges. He was exposed in the briebry-taking fact by Kakha Beradze, head of the Conservative Party of Zugdidi region.

The thing is that in 2003 an agreement was signed between a private enterpreneur Kakha Beradze and Gamgeoba of Zestaponi region. According to this agreement, Beradze’s firm was meant to conduct some repairs works. This agreement was cancelled due to unexplicable reasons and Beradze applied to court and he won the case. Gamgeoba, however, did not pay the due amount of money. After this Zestaponi Gamgeoba offered Beradze a 40,000 GEL project, 10 percent of which Beradze was meant to pay to Beruashvili as a bribe.

As Beruashvili explained to Beradze, he had to share this sum (1500 GEL) with Gia Kobakhidze, head of Zestaponi sakrebulo. As Beradze says, the raid of the Party office aimed at his liquidation. However, he was not in the office when it was raided. He also said that Beruashvili is by far not the most inolved in corruption.

According to Bidzina Gujabidze, this is not the first case of the Conservative Party office raid and he calls on the Government to stop putting pressure on the Political Parties.

On Thursday on a governmental cabinet meeting Interionr Minister Vano Merabishvili and Prosecutor General Zurab Adeishvili will be asked to make a comment on this issue.
