Shalva Ramishvili Goes on Hunger-strike in Isolator

Tbilisi.28.08.05.Media News. Shalva Ramishvili, the co-founder of “TV Company 202” and the anchor of the talk-show “Debates” who was arrested by law-enforcers on August 27 this year, went on a hunger-strike as a sign of protest to this arrest. He is suspected of the extortion of a large sum of money from Koba Bekauri, the MP.

The journalist is still on hunger-strike in the pre-detention isolator where he spent the night. According to the statement of David Korkotashvili, Ramishvili’s attorney, the anchor enjoys his right to remain silent and does not give any testimonies.

Police organized a special operation to arrest Ramishvili motivated by the suspicion that he was extorting USD 100 000 from Koba Bekauri by blocking the broadcast of materials prepared by the studio “Reporter”.

By the words of the authors, these materials bear witness of certain illegal acts of Koba Bekauri.
