Students of the Military Academy Voice a Protest in Front of Parliament

20/09/05 “Media News”- The students of the Military Academy and their parents protested against reforms in the Academy. On the initiative of the Minister of Defense of Georgia Irakli Okruashvili, the Military academy will be converted to the Officer’s High School. The duration of the courses will be 12 months and only people who have finished higher education will be eligible to apply.

The students say that they were removed from the Academy without any reason. They say that only students in their fourth year would be able to continue studying. Ex-students demand to organize a meeting with the Head of Parliament Nino Burjanadze. “If the requirements for acceptance of students is going to change, at least those who are currently studying should be able to finish their courses,”- protesters say.

“Ex-students will be able to work in any Military part of the Ministry of Defense, so they have nothing to protest against,”- say the representatives of the Ministry of Defense.
