70 Year-old Man was Battered near Russian Block Post

19/09/05, “Media News” - An inhabitant of Zugdidi, the 70 year-old Sokrat Patsia, was assaulted by unknown persons near the Russian military block post at the Enguri Bridge. Patsia was driving on his cart from Gali to Zugdidi when the three attacked him. They tried to steal money from him. The staff of the Internal Ministry of the Republic of Abkhazia saved the victim.

Ombudsman’s Office Accuses the Penitentiary Department of Indifference

19/09/05 “Media News” - After the death of 23 years-old prisoner Nugzar Ksovreli, the Ombudsman’s Office accused the Penitentiary Department of the Ministry of Justice of indifference. “Representatives of the Office of the Human Rights Defender and the members of the Monitoring Council knew about Ksovreli’s bad health condition. We asked the responsible persons to take care of him, but with no results. At last Ksovreli was moved from jail to hospital, but it proved to be too late,”- said the deputy of the Ombudsman - Bacho Akhalaia.

Ksovreli died in the hospital where he was taken from jail on the 25th of July.
