“New Students Alternative” Sues the Ministry of Education and Science

27/09/05 “Media News” – The organization “New Students Alternative” will start proceedings against the Ministry of Education and Science in the Administrative Division of the Civil Court on the 28th of September. Representatives of several non-governmental organizations, as well as students and their parents will attend the process. Representatives of student organizations say that avoiding responsibility is becoming a normal thing for the Ministry of Education and Science.

The case concerns 71 students, who passed the National Examinations and were accepted by several universities. Afterwards they were told that the Ministry made “a terrible error” and their names were added to the list by mistake. The representatives of the Ministry apologized to the students and recommended them to try again next year.

“The Ministry of Education and Science often avoids to take responsibility. Take the case of the students from Samachablo, for instance. The state promised them to pay their tuition fees, but actually, it did not. In the both cases, the representatives of the Ministry talked about technical mistakes and made ridiculous comments. According to the deputy of the Minister of Education and Science Bela Tsipuria, adding 71 students to the list was a technical error made by the computer,”- says a report made by the “New Students Alternative”.

The organization thinks that such absurd statements are illogic and that the ministry should guarantee to put the students on the list and enroll them in the studies. As the ministry did not react on the statements, the organization, together with the students and their parents prepared an appeal against the Ministry of Education and Science.
